Wildflower Meadow
The Kitchen Garden leads
directly into the Wildflower meadow. The meadow was planted
in 1990 to provide contrast to the more formal areas of
the garden.
In spring the meadow is covered with cowslips and primroses
and is carpeted in summer with Ox-Eye Daisies, Scabious,
Trefoils and many other chalkland grass species.
The meadow is managed as traditional pasture and attracts
a mass of bees, butterflies, small invertebrates and field
voles.
A lime walk planted with Tilia x europaea "Pallida"
bisects the meadow and leads to views eastward over the Wolds, Yorkshire and beyond.
